Il problema subito rinscontrato è che dopo l’installazione si ha il solito Black Screen esistente anche in Ubuntu 6.10(Edgy).

Il problema si risolve nel seguente modo:

Dopo il black screen, avviamo una nuova console (CTRL-ATL-F3).Da root modifichiamo manualmente xorg.conf:

vim /etc/X11/xorg.conf

andiamo alla sezione device (sotto la sezione monitor) e alla voce driver inseriamo vesa al posto di ati.

Ritorniamo alla console originale (CTRL-ATL-F7)e riavviamo X (CTRL-ATL-BACKSPACE).

KERNEL

Per chi vuole è disponibile il kernel Vanilla 2.6.21 (patch Kolivas) configurato per toshiba m70-249CD. Ecco come installarlo (se si vuole lasciare il kernel di default di debian etch passare al punto successivo)

Grub si aggiorna da solo.. basta riavviare!

SCHEDA VIDEO

Adesso possiamo installare la scheda video tramite i driver proprietari ATI.

RImuoviamo i vecchi driver se presenti..

$ aptitude purge fglrx-driver fglrx-kernel-src fglrx-control fglrx-kernel-2.6.18-4-686

$ wget https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/ati-driver-installer-8.36.5-x86.x86_64.run

Da Root:

Utilizziamo le opzioni di default suggerite dall’installer grafico ATI e infine da terminale digitare:

aticonfig --initial
aticonfig --overlay-type=Xv

Una volta però installati i driver non riuscivo a impostare la risoluzione 1280*800 (risoluzione ottimare)
Per risolvere questo problema dobbiamo modificare manualmente xorg.conf

Facciamo prima una copia di backup

cd /etc/X11/xorg.conf
mv xorg.conf xorg.conf.backup

gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

e sostituiamo il suo contenuto con questo:

Questo xorg.conf ci permette di risolvere anche il problema del touchpad che come abbiamo notato presenta una bassisima accelerazione. (se si vuole fare manualmente basta sostituire synaptic con alps alla voce Section “InputDevice”)

Se tutto funziona il comando fglrxinfo dovrebbe darci il seguente output

WIRELESS

Per installare la scheda di rete Wireless (Intel 2200bg) basta copiare in usr/lib/firmware il contenuto del file ipw2200-fw-3.0.tgz scaricabile a questo indirizzo e poi riavviare.

Risparmio Energetico

Per far variare la frequenza della cpu in relazione al carico di lavoro dobbiamo installare powernowd :


# gedit /etc/module

e aggiungere due righe alla fine (visitate la pagina http://linux.html.it/articoli/leggi/1762/powernowd-controllo-della-cpu-in-linux/2/ oppure per avere maggiori informazioni) del file:

cpufreq-userspace
speedstep-centrino

Chiudere e salvare il file, e attivare subito i moduli (per non riavviare tutto):

# modprobe cpufreq-userspace
# modprobe speedstep-centrino

Infine, installare il gestore incaricato al cambio della frequenza e configurarlo:

# apt-get update
# apt-get install powernowd
# powernowd -m 2 -v

A questo punto il processore varierà dinamicamente la sua frequenza da 800 Mhz a 1.73 Ghz; Se aggiungete a gnome per esempio l’applet del controllo di variazione cpu, la vedrete variare in real-time.

Bluetooth

I modelli di Toshiba che usano un BIOS Phoenix non possono usare il programma toshset per utilizzare il bluetooth.
Il problema è questo: Il bluetooth è disabilitato al caricamento del sistema operativo e può essere attivato soltanto con una chiamata particolare ACPI. In Windows, basta attivare il bluetooth dal pulsante e tutto funziona mentre in GNU/Linux no!
Però per risolvere questo problema ci viene in aiuto un modulo del kernel chiamato Omnibook appositamente pensato per Toshiba e Hp Laptop.

Come vediamo omnibook è un pacchetto completo che,oltre a risolvere il nostro problema relativo al bluetooth, ci permette di gestire molte utili funzionalità come ad esempio la gestione della ventola o monitorare la temperatura della cpu.

Installazione:

cd omnibook

Da utente root:


apt-get install build-essential linux-source
make
make install
make load

Se si è installato il kernel sopracitato (2.6.21 vanilla) allora scaricare i sorgenti da www.kernel.org e copiarli in /usr/src.

Attivando il modulo wireless tramite l’apposito pulsante vedremo che il bluetooth manager di gnome ci informerà che il bluetooth è attivo.

Per caricare il modulo all’avvio del sistema digitare da root:

The problem immediately found is that after tha installation the usual black existing screen is also had in Ubuntu.The problem resolves in this way:after the black screen we start a new console(CTRL-ATL-F3)from root we manually modify xorg-conf.

vim /etc/X11/xorg.conf

We go to the second device(under the section monitor)and the voice drive we insert vesa to the place of ATI.
We return to the original console(CTRL-ATL-F7)and we restart (CTRL-ATL-BACKSPACE).

KERNEL

For the one who wants the kernel Vanilla 2.6.21(patch kolivas)is avaible shaped for Toshiba m70-249CD.
Here as to install (if we wanted to let the Kernel of default of Debian we pass to the following point).

VIDEO

Now we can install the graphic card through the drivers ownes ATI.
We remove the old drivers if we introduce.

$ aptitude purge fglrx-driver fglrx-kernel-src fglrx-control fglrx-kernel-2.6.18-4-686
$ wget https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/ati-driver-installer-8.36.5-x86.x86_64.run

Da Root:

We use the options of default suggested by the graphic installer ATI and finally from terminal we write:


aticonfig --initial

But once I installed the drivers I didn’t succeed in planning the resolution1280-800(optimal resolution).
To resolve this problem we must manually modify xorg.conf.
We make a copy of backup before.

gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

This xorg.conf allows us to also resolve the problem of the touchpad that,as we have noticed,introduces a low acceleration.
(if someone wants to manuallly do is enough to replace synaptic with alps to the voice section “Input Device”).
We restart.

If everything works the command fglrxinfo should give us the following output:
